The author does a good job of drawing the reader's interest. I planned on reading the first chapter before I went to work, but ended up reading two and a half...
I love sci-fi, and love where the story is going so far...

Well i finished today... the second part of the book is addicting... I couldn't put it down today. The dialogue between characters is very well written...

I totally agree with you. The second part of the book is amazing. Character exchanges are brilliant. I may venture the opinion that this book has replaced every other Military Science Fiction Novel I held to be the best.

I agree... from the first to the last, he captures our attention, and throws out a surprise of epic proportions. Awesome job!

Thanks. I'm telling everyone I can about the book! (I usually can't stand Sci Fi, but I'm riveted with this one! and can't wait for the next)

Although there are many aspects of Lee's writing that make this book really good, the dialogue is what makes it for me so far. It really gives the characters the depth to make them believable and creates real relationships between the characters and the reader.

Dialogue is one of the things I like about most books, especially when its balanced with good action. The more internal dialogues, the less I generally like a book. I prefer to see the characters' emotions rather than read about them. That's something that Lee does an excellent job with. You aren't beaten over the head with character feelings. You see them in the way they interact.
Kudos to excellent writing!

Yep, you are correct. Great dialogue doesn't have to be a lot of dialogue. While someone like Quentin Tarantino likes his characters to go off on 20 minute dissertations, it is sometimes better to have a little silence, even if it's on the page, to give the actual dialogue more impact.

I think Quentin Tarantino sucks, hes so overrated
John Carpenter rules, his movies might not always be the best, but they're a lot of fun! Escape from L.A. was awesome and so was Big Trouble in Little China

I'm not a huge QT fan, but I have to admit - Pulp Fiction was a great movie IMO.

I'm on board 100% with you all about the dialogue in DoD. I just talked to my wife last night when I finished the book and said how much I enjoyed the dialogue. It really enveloped me into the story - I found myself laughing aloud during some parts and getting goosebumps in others. Very well done.

I still haven't finished my first read yet, but I got the creeps when they went to that place and Becan did that thing and... won't say any more than that since we're not in the Spoiler Zone. ;-p

I know what you mean! Certain senarios in the book spark certain emotions and I think I got caught up in all of them.
Your comment also reminded me of the movie Hackers - "It's in that place where I put that thing one time."
...that was random.

hehe, yeah. I originally wrote what the scene was but re-thought myself, realizing it could be considered a spolier.

Lee is extremely good at accurately describing a scenario without beating you over the head with it. That's probably one of his strongest suits. Never does the book get bogged down in overly dramatic descriptions. It flows well, just like the dialogue.
And Hackers is a good movie. Pulp Fiction is as well, although I'm similar to Lee in that I don't worship the ground that Tarantino walks on. I respect the guy and what he's done to shake up the film industry, but I'm never truly driven to his work. Although Resevoir Dogs is pretty good too.

Your points on the book are right on. I didn't really think about it until I read your comment -- I don't remember an area of the book I didn't care for. The book, while is split into chapters, doesn't feel disconnected at any point. No matter where the next scene, I don't feel like I'm 'jumping' around.

Exactly.
He states what you need to know without hammering you with it... He provides enough to keep the story flowing while ensuring the background is provided. That's a talent!

Hey guys. I am the newest member to this forum! I just finished reading the second book yesterday. I was HEARTBROKEN. This book was AMAZING but some of the parts made me cry like a baby. If you have read it you know what I am talking about. If you havent GET READY FOR A HECK OF A RIDE. The second book is incredible. The way that Lee writes it gets your adrenaline pumping so hard its like your right there.

I agree spolice88. I'm not a super emotional person, but I found myself being swept up in them when I read the book!
