Who would play the characters?

Remington: Colin Farrel

Thorr: Jeremy Irons or Jophn Malkovich

Sveta: Diane Kruger

... still thinking about Becan. I think Steve Zahn might be a good fit here.

Good call on Becan. I really like Steve Zahn. He's flexible as an actor.

For some reason I picture someone like Adrian Brody for Jayden: tall, lanky, with a big nose. :)

And for Lilan I picture Ed Harris.

great thread!

Colin Farrel for Remy? Hmmm maybe.

I seriously am going to ponder this and come back with my charcters!

Yes, I meant the first Ed Harris. The second Ed Harris I think would make an excellent member of the EDEN council guys.

And I don't really see Colin Farrel as Remy, but I can see the general outline of Remy as close to Farrel. But Colin just doesn't seem clean enough for Remington.

Adrian Brody isn't perfect as Jayden either, but I don't know of any actors that fit the image in my head right yet.

Remember, Remington joined right out of college. In fact, if memory serves, I believe he left college to join Eden. Have to read it again to make sure. I don't see Farrel as Remington now. Maybe a few years ago, like right around SWAT, but not now. It would need to be a young up-and-comer. Don't have one in mind right yet, but I'll think about it.

Who do you think for Jurgen? Maybe an Ethan Hawke or Mark Walhburg? They've both played cop roles before and pulled them off pretty well.

What about Jake Gyllenhaal for Remy? And John Malkovich would make a great Thoor!

Logan
10-09-2007, 08:54 AM
Ethan Hawke might make a pretty good Jurgen. I think Marky Mark is a bit too Alpha Male to be David though. Plus, he's got biceps the size of Rhode Island, which I never pictured on Jurgen. :)

Gyllenhall is a possibility. He's pretty flexible as an actor.

Sveta81
10-09-2007, 08:12 PM
I thought of Jake Gyllenhall too, but I can't get over the Brokeback preformance, and we can't have Remy tied to that! :) I refuse!

What about the kid who got blown up at the end of last season on Heroes?

Logan
10-10-2007, 09:43 AM
I can't remember his name right now, it's really weird and long, but I can go with him. He'd have to smile a lot more than he does in Heroes, but he's got the intensity needed for the role and, with his hair cut, can look pretty clean-cut.

Good call!

EDIT: Milo Ventimiglia. Thanks IMDB!

Jake Gyllenhall is good choice... I like that one the best so far. You need someone with a quiet confidence and I think Collin Ferrell is a bit to... harsh, maybe cocky even... not sure if that makes sense.

I feel horrible because I can't put all the character names to the characters - which means it's time to re-read the book.

But, Sveta (isn't she the medic that Remy had the encounter with in the lounge?). The first person that came to my mind, even while reading the book, is the chick from Die Hard with a Vengeance. The Russian bad guy (Jeremy Irons!) girlfriend. She's got the hard outter shell look, but as an actress probably could soften up. Little old for the part - just happend to be my first thought.
Sam Phillips is her name (took me a minute)... like I said, maybe too old and I wouldn't want her as the part, but.... meh.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/samphillips.jpg

Again I'm kicking myself for not remembering names. But Remmy's buddy that's the big football player-esque guy - Harbinger? I think Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Gone In Sixty Seconds, etc) - big, stern, but you know he's just a cuddly teddy bear inside... a teddy bear that could kill you 27 different ways with is button eyes.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/vinniejones.jpg

For Thor, my man, Anthony Hopkins ftw.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/anythonyhopkins2.jpg

Though, in my search for other actors, I ran across Jason Isaacs (The Patriot, Black Hawk Down), who I thought could squeeze into this role... of course if Anthony was unavailable.

Max (he's the one with the attitude when Remmy came in right?), I nominate two men. First choice goes to our favorite Battlestar Galactica (modern era) Captain, Jamie Bamber - can be a cocky son of a gun, but would end being a actor that'd fit the part and end up stealing the hearts of many viewers:

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/jamiebamber.jpg

Runner up because of his obnoxious role as Commodus in Gladiator, but likable little bro role in Signs, Joaquin Pheonix.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/jaoquinpheonix.jpg

For that quirky Becan, I'll pull from Gladiator again. Maximus' trusty Scottish.. or Irish... right hand man, Tommy Flanagan. Plus, I hear he's looking for work.

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/tommyflanagan.jpg

Jayden - tough choice for me, but this guy keeps popping into my head - maybe if only because he's played a similar role, Barry Pepper (Sniper from Saving Private Ryan). He's totally nailed the 'look' of Jayden when I read the book.

As far as Jurgen goes, it's probably the toughest choice because he's my favorite character and I'd want someone to fit the role perfectly. Haven't settled on that person yet. So far, my choices in no particular order:

I'm hesitant to pick this first actor, Michael Cudlitz (Band of Brothers) because he doesn't really impress me as an actor (though it's tough with an amazing cast in BOB outshining you), but Jurgen's character, to me, is a 'big' guy - like a teddy bear, but with leadership and a "I won't take crap from you if I don't want to" attitude. You like him. He's a family guy, but sacrifices them and himself for a higher duty (like serving in EDEN - the 'end goal' is to protect and preserve his family and other, but that means having to sacrifice time from them to accomplish that). Think "Grandpa" of the group, but can kick everyone in the rooms *** if he has to... but won't because he's above that? eh?
And with all that explanation, I don't know if this actor, Michael, can step up to that part. Mostly because I haven't seen enough of him.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/michaelcudlitz2.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/michaelcudlitz.jpg

A taller, more lovable Tom Sizemore:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/tomsizemore.jpg

The closest I've come to a leading role would be Sam Elliot (Tombstone). Possibly a more 'burly' version of him, but he's got the look and the low voice. I just don't know if he's got the juice left in him to battle the occasional alien invasion. He's also got to shave the 'stache.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/rokitows/samelliot.jpg

I can start my new casting job anytime.

Logan

Wow, I really like some of those, especially the Max one (battlestar guy). He's got the perfect look, if you blonded him out and made him angry.

I haven't really seen anyone perfect for Jurgen either, but that's probably because he's so 'everyman' that its hard to pin it down.

I like your Jayden choice as well. Just get him to close his mouth a bit. :)

Nice stuff!

Hmm... I think your second choice has some potential as Thoor! I see Thoor as younger than Sir Anthony. Still has some color to his hair, with piercing eyes. Good choice!

Pewter Picaroon
10-13-2007, 09:26 PM
I agree. I think that's why I put him up. He has a little more 'bite' than Anthony has. I just keep thinking of Anythony's roles - I've seen him more and know he can play that dominating person. Then again, I can see Mr. Isaacs have more of a 'shady' personality along with the Alpha male attitude.

Alright, alright, I can see where this is headed. Okay, if they ever make a DoD movie, I guess I could take up the role of Scott. I mean, college QB is probably a bit of a stretch, but it's acting right? I could probably pull it off. Plus I'm about the right age for Remington. And I can work pretty cheap.

I like Vinnie Jones as Harbinger, and Jason Isaacs could make for a good Thoor, although I always pictured Thoor as more of a "massive" character. Jamie Bamber looks like my idea of Max. Good suggestion. Pepper could make a good Jayden, but he's already done a similar role once, not sure if he would do it again.

After having just finished reading the book(about 10 minutes before making this post) I have some thoughts that I would like to post on this subject so here it goes:

For Scott Remington: I can picture a few people, but the best choice I can see is Milo Ventimiglia, Peter Patrelli from Heroes. http://imdb.com/name/nm0893257/

For Jurgen: When when I first seen the picture for him as a forum avatar the first thought I had was, Harrison Ford. After having read the book I still can see him in that role. I think he could play the "Old man" of the unit quiet well. However I can also see Tom Sizemore but I really think that Harrison Ford would be the superior choice.

For Becan: I can really only picture one person for that role, and that is Ewen McGregor. http://imdb.com/name/nm0000191/

Jayden is a bit of a tough choice for me. He is the quiet one. The one that you want to watch carefully. I can see Jake Gyllenhal doing the role but he wouldn't be my primary choice. I'll have to give this one a bit more thought.

Harbinger: Only one choice that I can see and it was mentioned earlier in this thread: Vinnie Jones.

Lilian: He is a tough one, not for the same reasons as Jayden but because I can see a few people doing well in this role. Lilian is the veteran warrior. He is hard on all of Falcon Platoon when Remington first joins but that is because he cares even though he doesn't show it. My first thought on him was Tom Hanks cause of his role in Saving Private Ryan. After thinking about it though I really can see Mel Gibson filling this role also. Both would be excellent choices for the role.

Axen: I seen some people here posting that they could see Colin Farrel playing Remington. I have to disagree. I can see him filling the role of Max. He can play the attitude that Max gives Scott when they first meet real well.

Thoor: Ah good ole Ignatius. How I loved to hate that man. While yes he is a decent military leader he can never truly be considered a leader of men because of his complete lack of caring for them(that I have thus far seen) For him I have a special choice. Zachary Quinto, http://imdb.com/name/nm0704270/. Yes I think Sylar from Heroes would play a very good Thoor.

Svetlana: I can't really pick anyone for her. Not yet at least.

Baranov: Ivan was my favorite supporting character from the book(I don't count Jurgen, Becan, and Jayden as supporting). So he needs someone special. Who could play the role of a bear well? Anyone have any Ideas cause I don't:)

OK, When I was reading the DoD here are the actors that I was "playing" the roles of the characters in the book. Forgive me I get the book's charters names wrong.

Becan (the Irish fellow) = Rhys Ifans (The Replacements)
http://blog.homecinemachoice.com/resources/homecinemachoice/rhys_ifans.jpg

Max (the guy who beat up Scott when the got to Russia) = Adam Baldwin
http://lookingcloser.org/images/jayne.jpg

Well that's all for now, I might think of more later.

spolice88

Okay. I dont know how to put pictures up but how about these:

Remmy: Shia LaBeouf. He is really rising as far as movies and has taken on some serious roles. I think he would do well. Or maybe Orlando Bloom. He seems to do well with characters like Remmy.

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg139/lizzzbethhhx3/SHIA.jpg

Sveta: What about Scarlet Johannsen? She has the features described in the book and is a very strong actress. She has played both confident people and the vulnerable.

Thoor: I think that Anthony Hopkins would be a good Thoor, but I see him more as a Judge in the EDEN command. Remember, Thoor is "The Machine." He is emotionless and strikes fear into the hearts of men. I think that I would have to agree on Jeremy Irons.

Nicole: Kate Hudson or Rachel MacAdams. The All American Sweetheart.

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/samantha3556/rachel-mcadams.jpg

Archer: The guy that played the "American Psycho"...Christian Bale.

http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w209/shawnna0278/christian_bale.jpg

Jayden: Ryan Gosling!! I can picture him with a cowboy hat on. Plus he has a natural quiet look about him similar to our favorite cowboy.

Becan: Sean Patrick Flanery or Norman Reedus. They starred in Boondock Saints. Whichever one is goofier. I think I would prefer Sean to Norman but thats just me. Plus, his Irish accent is REAL.

http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h279/khkgj/spfcopy.jpg

Clarke: I'm thinking Rupert Everett. He is very versatile.

David: Dennis Quaid. He has always been a firm father figure and I think he would do well as Jurgen. Or David Morse from the Green Mile.

Max: Chad Michael Murray. He played a bad-boy in House of Wax and that same attitude fits Max's personnality.

http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q130/jMi_Jaded/Chad%20Michael%20Murray/chad10.jpg

Will: Hands down Vinnie Jones. Who can argue that? Honestly? Though if they hadnt specified that Will was white I would say that Michael Clarke Duncan would have been bomb.

Dostoevsky: Vin Diesel. Heartless, huge and strange. Not to mention his specialty is action movies.

Rade Serbedzija - His acting style strikes me as a perfect Grinkov. For Torokin, I'd have to think about it more.

On Remington: I thought he was supposed to be in his early to mid twenties. If so, I think Bale could definitely pull it off. If Remmy is supposed to be younger, that would be tough (though not impossible).
