I'm not sure how long the guys are going to be staying at Novosibirsk, or who's going to survive long term, but if Becan survives, can anyone else see him becoming a Nightman?
I might be reaching here, but he was pretty wicked during the hand-to-hand combat sparring, and he had to of made some impressions. He seems like the kind of guy who's looking for a place to fit in, and violence seems to come easy for him. Also, they were told that most of the Nightmen were Russian, but not all.
Like I said, may be reaching, but it's a thought...

I suppose anything is possible. Becan always struck me as a light-hearted guy, however, and the Nightmen don't exactly strike me as the type who enjoy life all that much. Way too dour.
I could see them recruiting him for sure. But if he became a Nightman, I think they'd have to kill him for annoying the crap out of him with his constant annecdotes. :)
That's an interesting thought. I wonder what's going to happen next for the crew as a whole.

I see what you mean as far as him being a light-hearted character. But during that 3-on-1 sparring match, I just got the impression that there was a darker side to him that he tapped into for that fight. I dunno, like I said, probably reaching here. We'll see.

I DO wonder where he learned to fight like that. Was it just a bunch of pub-brawls in Ireland? Did he grow up fighting for money? Was he trained in Wushu by a monk? Maybe there is a darker side that he's trying to cover up by being so flippant so often. I guess we'll see in later books!
Good concept though. A dark Becan would be a very bad thing.

Nope. Becan might be the comic relief character, but I think deep down inside Becan has a keen sense of right and wrong. Not necessarily from a morals perspective, but I think he sees "good" and "bad". I don't think he would be afraid to stand up against the Nightmen. However, I couldn't see him becoming one! Besides, they are way too serious.. they couldn't handle a goofball like Becan! :)
