What do you think is shaping up? Personally, I think Kentwood's death was no accident (if indeed he is really dead), and this was set up so that Archer would eventually replace Pauling as President.
Torokin, although he dislikes a lot of people, is right about his gut opinion of Archer...

Maybe Archer is the Antichrist.

I'm pretty sure the plan has been all along to get Archer into Eden Command so he can take over, for whatever reason, I'm unsure just yet, but Kentwood was on to something that would have jeopardized that. I also wouldn't rule out that Thoor and Archer are in things together... Thoor wants to rule the world's military, and Archer may be using the disguise of being pitted against him to get him "in." When he gets the control he wants, who knows how things will turn.
But to tell you the truth, I think someone on Earth knew the aliens were going to attack, and I think some people on Earth had met the Ithini before and are in collaboration with them. Remember there were only 5 attacks the first year... and the first attack was close to the anniversary of the World Peace Treaty... that, IMO is no coincidence. There had to be enough attacks that Earth would "panic." That's exactly what happened. After the first year, 3 bases were set up, one of them being Novosibirsk. Once EDEN had established itself on the planet, then more attacks came.
Someone wants to control Earth, and I'm beginning to think it's someone(s) on Earth. It's possible that the Bakma and Ceratopians are just mercenary types of creatures, warmongers, per say. And that would parallel quite nicely with how you would look at the Nightmen, no?
I think the Ithini are just a curious bunch of creatures, and are being given a chance to learn about another world, and possible gain some sort of profit from it when whomever it is wants control of Earth is able to do so...
The "Race for Earth," may not be an alien race at all, but a race by a group or two for control of Earth. With that said Thoor just may want to dictate and Archer may be one of the men all along looking for control. Thoor may be the thorn in his side, as he is also using this Alien War to gain power.
Those are a couple of my theories...

Wow, great stuff Dercol. I don't think I even began to think that indepth about it.
I'm a little dissapointed in how... lazy?... that EDEN Command has been. I thought the stuff that Archer ended up finding out and proposing would be something the group could have figured out before then. They all seemed so excited when something had finally started to happen (agreeing on Archer's proposal), but what stopped them from figuring it out on their own before that?
There are some vocal people in Command and they had real problems with Thoor and Novosibirk - why weren't they researching this stuff before? I know one of them (Began with a C, but don't remember how to spell it) kept saying things like, "this is what I said all along", but he was weak, at best, in convincing anyone to do anything. Just thought it was wierd that it took Archer coming in to make things happen (I know it's what moves the story along...)

You know, as much as I like Scott and the rest of the crew, to me the Command scene, especially the concepts behind the aliens, is where its at. I love the dynamics possible with multiple races and the anachronism behind their having advanced technology but resorting to primitive combat tactics. Very interesting.
I'm really looking forward to later books as, hopefully, man begins to understand the origins behind the races and what's making them do what they do now.

Well I think certain people in EDEN Command didn't want the others to find out even some simple things, because they are behind something with Archer. Once Kentwood was given clearance into Intelligence, he's dead.
I will post one or two theories I have in here sometime soon, when I have a chance to think some of it out more clearly and go back and check some things out.

I have to agree with Dercol on this one. Something is not right with the EDEN command. It is way too convenient that Archer wasnt appointed without discussion with the other judges. Not to mention that he just worked way to fast with the Novosibirsk situation. There is no way that the pannel just "missed" something THAT huge. Plus hi, he can UNDERSTAND the Ithini!!! Tell me that's not crucial. I think Archer is in something far deeper than just an EDEN Command conspiracy. I think that he has his hand in some other much more important things and he is just sitting in them until the right time. I dont trust Archer at all.

Me neither. And for some reason when I picture Archer, I picture Robin Hood. Maybe its because they describe him as a prince. A Prince of Thieves maybe?
Also, his name is Archer. HELLOOO?
He's so totally Robin Hood. But... evil. :D

lol. while the tights certainly make the outfit i pictured him looking a lot more innocent, except the eyes. behind his eyes there is an evil that lurks there. i want to know who he is working for. because i seriously doubt its the EDEN command.

I think in future books we're going to find out that some humans 'know' more about the aliens that what humankind is led to believe.
What I really enjoy about this series so far, is that the aliens aren't just the typical extraterrestrials normally depicted - they don't just come to Earth with a load of ships, superior weapons, and no negotiations. There's a aura of politics associated with them. The possibility that they don't know everythign about the human race, that it 'costs' them to attack (just like it costs money to run an army in the 'real world'), there's strategy that may not be agreed upon by the aliens. I imagine there's an "EDEN Command" for the aliens as well. A group deciding what to do, when to do it, how to do it. A hiearchy.
However, I wouldn't be surpised to eventually hear that at least SOME of the aliens have made contact with humans (in a non-threating manner... like a secret rendevous type of thing). In politics, there are always those who disagree with each other and always secrecy... why couldn't it be like that with the aliens? Maybe some aliens don't agree with the way things are being handle with Earth... maybe they want peace? Maybe there's a "Thoor" of the alien variety.
So much to think about!

a human-alien rendevous certainly would put a snag in some plans, though i do think it is entirely possible pewter! i would even go as far as to say that it could have played a key role in the bakma being able to develop that base right under our noses.
also....this is circa war of the worlds...but whose to say that they didnt get here before we did, marked earth for theirs to come back to, but we found out about them first? what if EDEN command knew that they would come back? maybe?
i still think that there is still a further to disect about Archer and the Ithini. Very odd.
